Especially since this feels like your first time… Letting me inside your head.
If my sensing is right, it might be best for you to walk down this path first, and then this next one one - it’ll prepare your fragile minds to the realities of inquisition.
Two paths open up before you, shimmering into an existence. You feel a gentle current pushing the boat you find yourself in alone. The current seems to urge you towards the left. The scene feel oddly familiar to you, like a crossroad from your childhood that your mind is generating to make sense of what the voice is saying.
Yes, I’d suggest you take the left path before the right, it’ll make more sense that way.

As your journey down the paths come to an end, you find yourself back where you began, sitting on a boat floating between rivers. The two forks of the river come back together - leaving just one path ahead for you to drift into.
And so you drift.

You are more acquainted me with now, are you not? Good good.
You see, speaking into your mind like i am doing now is a … daunting experience for the untrained mind. Like vicious white bloodcells the subsconscious seeks to attack any intruder into theri conscious.
But one so mentally weak as yourself... Would only face utter, complete, mental destruction if you were try and battle with me.

We of the Core, the Descended, the Chosen.
We are simply gifted beyond your wildest imaginations.
And that is okay - for we have your best intereest at heart.
The Descended seek to drag you, and the rest of creation down into the truth of the core, with us.
And to drag an entire people, requires strength.
That is what the core bestows upon us.
Strength like you've never seen.

Reality shimmers around you as you drift down the river… The beautiful blue water turning into an electric green. The skies seem to darken, streaks of lightning and smog covering where the Sun once was. The trees morph into buildings of stone and metal. Black, terrifying, looming buildings that stand solid while seemingly coursing with life.
The surrounding air grows damp and heavy, like you’re in a cave of some sort - while the sky seems to be alive.
Your boat gently bumps into what appears to be a stone dock. A looming structure, reaching into the tops of the cave… Or sky has appeared before you. It’s surrounded by stone and metal statues of shrouded figures, eyes aglow… But lifeless?
The conundrum hurts your brain.
Welcome friend, to the Low Sanctuary.
You are an undisclosed distance from the surface.
Yes sir, that means you’re underground, ever closer to the great core.
You are in a place few will ever get to see, and even fewer ever get to physically enter.
You are one of the former, but not the latter - that requires a certain… Holiness.
Consecrataion.
Set-apartness, that you lack.
But through the eye of my mind, you are able to get a glimpse into the glories of perfection.
Come.
You rise from the boat, which doesnt’ seem to sway under you like a boat usually would, odd. As you take your first step onto solid ground, you realise even the ground beneath you seem to teem with life, it vibrates against you, rushing you with an intoxicating sort of energy.
You can’t help but to inhale deeply and revel in the slight euphoria experienced as your feet take you towards the looming structure.
As you get between the first of two parallel statues, the glowing from the eyes brighten - sending a form of energy through the structure and bringing what was once some sort of stone or metal, to life. The statue, which once stood with it’s hand on the hilt of a sword pointed down, drops to a kneeling position but instead of keeping it’s gaze lowered - stares right at you.
“High Inquisition, it is an honour. An inspection before you great conquest?” The… (Was it still right to call it a statue?)... Guard speaks out towards you.
The opposing statue, now similarly awakened, grins back.
“I hear you’ve got to vent some frustrations before setting off, above. Just incase you crush the unfortunate uncleans from annoyance.” He mutters the last few words with a line of disgust coating the words.
You feel a power build up within your chest, which floats up towards your head and suddenly shoots forth towards both guards. They hide a grimace as their minds are invaded.
You’re both lucky I’m on my own today and don’t end you both for speaking so casually.
Both guards immediately drop their heads, you catch a look of confusion on their faces as they do.
“Our apologies, High One.” They say in unison. You see their bodies slowly creeping back into the stone hardness they once had.
Another blast of energy from your head to the two.
Heh, gotcha. You both have to take yourself less seriously - what’s the big deal if I rip your hearts out? Two sentinels becoming one with the core would bring great honor to you, and delightful strength to me.
I’ve been advised by the echelon to warm myself up with some promising harvests… i hear the future ‘trepidation’ is amongst this pool. I’m excited to see what powers he possesses.
Without awaiting a response, you seem to just walk right past the two, ignoring the other statues that bow down to you as well. The next few don’t both speaking to you, having noticed your… Mood.

The world around you shimmers once more before materializing into the inner halls of the sanctuary.
The room is a glowing dark red, the color seemingly emanating from the material it’s been build from and the flickering flames that set it alight.
The hall has a central portion, where five cloaked men stood in attention, with a circular row of seats surrounding the edges of the room. The seats were elevated, at least thirty feet, if not more, above the central section. Each seat, but one, seemed occupied.
You couldn’t make out the features of any of them - except for a dark glow of energy that seemed to come from various parts of their bodies. Each seat had the glow in a different area, near the eyes, a single foot, a hand… Was that a ear?
Looking too long made you uneasy, but being here corporeally you couldn’t have felt it in your gut.
“Ah, Oh High Inquistion, thank you for gracing us with your presence.” You hear the voice come from one with the glowing… mouth, it must be. As the voice reaches you, your vision blurs and you feel the body you’re in struggle to keep up.
“Have you been eating alright, my dear “speaker”, you don’t sound as good as you usually do.”
You seemed to respond, each word coming from your lips in a singsong way.
I hate this one, and he hates me - we both love the core but… ugh. He’s a petulant as a child.
Meet speaker, he’d like to think he’s the leader of the twelve, foolishly like there was even such a thing.
There is the strongest, but we all know he isn’t that.
No, no, there are at least three of us stronger than him.
Anyways, he’s a right pain in my nethers, and it’s he that’s put up this little show today.

“I’d be eating much better the moment you’ve gone off on your mission… But before that - meet our esteemed harvest, there’s potentially a new Trepidation…. And a new Inquistion in these ranks.”
“Oh? That is news to me indeed, I didn’t realise we’d started recruiting replacements quite so early…”
“Ah, but your mission is so dangerous! To the above, amongst the unclean, what if you’re tainted… And can no longer hold your seat. We had to prepare… I’m sure you understand.”
“Just, if I’d got the memo - I’d have told one of the sentinels out there they could probably take your seat soon.”
A slam reverberates through the hall as the Speaker’s fist meets hard stone along with a grunt. The power his grunt generates shakes the ground and makes one of the five even stumble to the ground.

In the blink of an eye, you find yourself transported before the fallen Harvest, a fist… No, your fist (well my fist that you’re experiencing through my eyes), is engulfed by his warm flesh for a second before freeing the man of his still beating heart.
A tingle runs down your spine.
Ducking the incoming backhand from his compatriot, you throw the beating heart at a third, before flickering to him.
A burst of energy is released through your head, incapacitating the man who’d thrown the back-fist and a fourth man. You drive your knee into the sternum one you’d flickered to, feeling bone shatter from the force.
Another flicker.
You’re behind the third now, and with strength you wrap your arms around him and swing him into the last man standing.
The man flickers, avoiding the flying body.
Yes, this was the only one worth anything.
the only one with the power to react to me.
He shimmers in the air once more, before appearing right before you - eyes ablaze in green. He throws a stiff fist towards your jaw, which is lazily caught by your left hand. You drive your right towards his skull, before he drops to a knee and bows.
“I yield, Oh High Inquistion.” He says loudly, clearly and with respect.
“I’m hoping this one was mine, the only one with the wherewithal to protect his prized mind and the wisdom to know his death was emminent. The other four... Can be Hunter feed."
You glance back at the Echelon, meeting the eye of The Speaker, before your world shimmers to black.
