Kaitlyn sits on the chocolate brown two seater couch inside the living room of her close friend and former gymnastics teammate Danielle’s house, wearing a black singlet with a black leather jacket on top, black leggings and white converse sneakers. Her hair is tied into a high ponytail and red lipstick lines her lips. Sitting next to her is Danielle, wearing a white t-shirt with a wolf in the middle, denim jeans with a black leather belt and chocolate brown knee high boots. Her blonde hair is tied into two buns and her bangs rest atop her forehead. Smiling as she looks at Danielle, Kaitlyn places her left hand on top of her right hand, causing a shade of red to appear across the latter’s cheeks before Kaitlyn slides her hand off and places it back atop her thigh.
“So,” Danielle remarks, breaking the silence that had begun to build in the room. “Tell me about wrestling. What’s it like?”
Feeling a lump begin to form in her throat, Kaitlyn exhales, attempting to think of the best way to explain it. It’s not something that she had given too much thought to, having just gone with the flow and seeing where it would take her throughout the beginning of her career - picking up things as she goes along. Following the lead of those who know the sport better than she does.
“It’s been fun. Painful, but fun.” she responds, knowing that it’s the best way she can explain her time as a wrestler. “A lot more physical than gymnastics, I’ll say that much. I don’t regret it though, as I have been able to go out there and stand in the spotlight. Step into the ring with some of the brightest names and learn from them. Take what they’ve done and use it to motivate myself to reach those same heights.”
“Sounds awesome to me.” Danielle states, her eyes widening as she laughs. “I know you can reach those heights too. You always seem to.”
There’s a hint of jealousy in Danielle’s voice with those words, as Kaitlyn always seemed to have the ability to absorb new information and apply it quicker than her, whether it was in gymnastics or now in Kaitlyn’s case, wrestling. She has always been happy for her friend but internally, it has been something that has frustrated her - especially when the two were in direct competition with one another.
“I hope so,” Kaitlyn remarks, exhaling. “I’ve still got a long way to go…”
“I know you will. You just need to remember how far you have come. How you were able to rise up in gymnastics and pull off some of the most difficult routines. I’m sure wrestling will be the same.” Danielle states, hoping to bring out the confidence that she knows Kaitlyn has inside of her. The belief that she can do anything she sets her mind out to do.
Nodding, Kaitlyn gives her another smile. Thankful that she is here - as deep down, she knows she needs to hear that. She has been a nervous wreck ever since she made her decision, trying to find her way and live up to the expectations she has set out for herself rather than believing that she will. It’s the one thing that she wants to change as she continues to navigate her way in the ring - and every day, she works toward doing just that. Whether it be in the gym or when she spars with her coach, she becomes more comfortable with herself. By giving the fans something that they can cheer for, even if her fanbase is only small right now, she wants them to know that she sees them. That they inspire her just as much as she hopes to inspire them.
“Maybe,” she states as Danielle glares at her.
“Not maybe. You will.” Danielle interjects. “I believe in you.”
Her cheeks beginning to turn ruby red, Kaitlyn covers it with her hands so that Danielle can’t see.
“Thank you,” she states, beginning to feel a wave of new found belief wash through her. “I promise that for you… I will reach the top. I will succeed, no matter what.” she pauses, remembering something she wanted to ask of Danielle in return. “I want you to promise me something…”
“What?” Danielle inquires.
“I want you to promise me you’ll make the Olympic team.” Kaitlyn remarks, her smile turning into a beam. “I know you can. You deserve it.”
“I will. I know exactly what I plan on doing too.” Danielle states, appeasing Kaitlyn. “Want me to show you tomorrow?”
“Okay.” Kaitlyn remarks, a sense of excitement growing inside of her. She knows that it’ll be something special, considering how polished Danielle is when it comes to gymnastics. “I’ll even show you some of my wrestling moves too.”
Danielle laughs, nodding. Whilst she mightn’t know anything about the sport, if it’s what Kaitlyn’s heart desires - she will support her the best she can. Just like Kaitlyn has supported her gymnastics endeavors and been there for her - both as a competitor and teammate. Plus, it gives her a chance to experience the new side of Kaitlyn for herself.
“Sounds like a plan to me,” she remarks. “Be gentle though. I don’t want to get injured.”
“I will be. I don’t want you to miss the Olympic trials.” Kaitlyn responds, sliding over before twisting her body so that she is facing the television. “It’s practice, after all.”
“Good.” Danielle states, turning her own body so that she too is facing the television. “I know we’ll both kill it.”
“Of course we will.” Kaitlyn states, stopping herself. “Don’t we always kill it?”
“There’s the old Kaitlyn,” Danielle remarks, joy in her voice. This is the side she had wanted to see from her - the one who believes in herself and knows she can kill it every time she competes. Or practices in this case. “Now, don’t forget to take her with you when you step into the ring, okay?”
Kaitlyn laughs, knowing that Danielle won’t accept anything but the resulting “I will,” as an answer. It’s a reminder to herself to always have faith. To always know who she is and not overthink anything - something she is guilty of when it comes to wrestling. Whether it be in the National Pro Wrestling Association or Thunder Pro Wrestling. That is one of the main reasons she had wanted to catch up with Danielle. She knew she would tell her straight up what she needed to hear. That she shouldn’t be the whimpering ball of nervous energy that she had been, but the same person she was. The one who knows how good she is and uses that to drive herself to success.
“Promise?” Danielle states, glancing at her out of the corner of her eyes.
“Promise” Kaitlyn affirms.
Danielle’s look in response is one that indicates that she intends on holding Kaitlyn to that promise, as she reaches for the remote on the armrest with her right hand, clasping it before placing it on her lap. Remembering that she had wanted to watch the Vampire Diaries while Kaitlyn was over, seeing as it is something the two of them always do whenever she visits. It’s one of the many traditions the two share.
“You ready?” she asks.
“Yes.” Kaitlyn excitedly remarks, knowing exactly what Danielle was referring to.
Turning the TV on, Danielle, having already put the DVD in, presses the play button as the introduction to the show is the last thing that is heard, the two women’s focus solely on the show.
