For as long as she can remember, Cassandra has wanted to be a professional wrestler. She was enamored by the athletic feats she would see at events and how her mom and aunt would make it look all too easy. To her, wrestling is her life and if it allows her to uphold the legacy of the family and elevate her own in the process as she forges her path in the sport she loves, then it is what she intends on doing. No matter what it will take in order to do so.
Cassandra sits on the bleachers inside of the Valkyrie Star gym, having just finished up taping her hands, awaiting the arrival of her mom for their promised sparring session together. Catching her friend and fellow graduate of the academy Kathryn Nicholson leaving, she glances across at the open door of the office, just as Valorie walks out. Holding about five pieces of paper in her hand, she briskly makes her way over to her daughter, smiling as she sits next to her and places the papers in between them.
Cassandra: "Are those the contracts you told me about earlier?"
Valorie nods. She had told her oldest daughter that she wanted to go over something with her before they sparred, which is why she had brought the papers along with her. The past few days, she had been negotiating with a few promotions who were interested in Cassandra's services, having seen the talent and potential she displayed in tapes.
Valorie: "Yeah. A few of the promotions got back to me earlier and wanted me to see if you were willing to sign with them."
Cassandra looks through them. Two of them are promotions based in the Bellevue area, one of them is based in San Diego, one in Spokane and one in West Virginia but operating out of Florida. Reading through them, she ponders which company makes the most sense for her. Which one offered her the best opportunity in terms of her career and foundation starting out. One of them in particular catching her eye.
Cassandra: "Thunder Pro Wrestling."
Valorie: "Is that your choice?"
It's Cassandra's turn to nod. She was immediately intrigued by the fact they had some of the most recognizable names in wrestling on their roster and knows that if she is going to be the best that she can be. If she is going to carry the legacy of the Irvine name on her back, then there is no better place for her to start than a company where she can immediately test herself against top level talent. Something every wrestler wants to do if they are to reach the top of the sport.
Valorie: "Are you sure? There's no rush, so think about if you think this is the best choice. I support you no matter what, but don't want you to rush into this."
Cassandra gives her mom a questioning look, surprised that she would ask if she felt confident in her choice. That's the sort of question she expected to be asked of Kyla, not her. Especially when it comes to wrestling.
Cassandra: "Yes."
Valorie: "Okay. I'll let them know."
Scooping up the contracts, Valorie makes her way back toward her office to place them back, as Cassandra stares in the direction of the nearest right to her right. A ring that she is all too familiar with, having trained in it since 9th grade and helping set it up since 6th grade. Her lips curling upward, she thinks about all the times she shed blood, sweat and even tears in the ring, doing what she loves the most. That if it wasn't for the ring, she wouldn't be where she is right now. On the verge of making her mark within the industry. Of making sure people respect the Irvine name.
Cassandra: "You can say all you want that I am only getting this opportunity. This chance because of my name. That they were only interested in signing me because of who my mom and aunt are, but you would be mistaken.
Yes, their names may have helped me get my foot in the door, but you are going to see that the only person responsible for bringing me to Thunder Pro Wrestling. The only person who is the reason that they want me to step inside of their ring, is me.
Every time I step into the ring, I go out there with one thing and one thing only on my mind. How am I going to uphold the legacy? How am I going to make sure people know my name? That is what has mattered most to me since I stepped into that ring for the first time. The moment my mom agreed to allow me to train under her and begin down this path. I plan on forging my own path within this industry. One paved with blood, sweat and tears. One where whoever tries to deny me. Whoever believes that they can prevent me from leaving my mark are taken down and left on the mat.
The realization hitting them that I'm not just an extension of my family, but somebody who they don't want to get on the bad side of. Somebody who will not hesitate to leave them lying, if it means I can claim the glory. The legacy that I desire. Starting with whoever sees fit to stand against me in Thunder Pro."
Having heard this as she was walking back, Valorie feels a sense of pride flowing through her. She has taught her daughter well, to the point where those words could have left her own mouth and had the same impact they did coming from Cassandra. Her in ring talent was always there, it was the speaking part that she previously struggled with in training. It was always Kyla who was more self-assured when talking, while Cassandra was the more focused inside of the ring of the two. Glancing at Valorie, Cassandra narrows her eyes, rising and wandering over to the ring in order to commence their sparring.
Taking their positions on opposite sides, they look into one another's eyes with vastly different expressions on their faces. A jovial expression across Valorie's, filled with happiness and excitement for her daughter and a stoic, emotionless expression from Cassandra. Focused only on showing her mom she had made the right choice for herself by joining Thunder Pro. That she is ready for whatever they might throw at her.
Valorie:" "You ready?"
Cassandra: "Yes."
Valorie: "Good. I'm not going to be taking it easy on you, so stay on your toes at all times. Don't let me take you down before you even get to Thunder Pro."
Cassandra shakes her head as Valorie laughs. She might not be the spring chicken she once was, but she can still go in the ring. After all, she has been the lead trainer throughout the duration of Valkyrie Star Training Center's existence and molded the stars leaving the nest into what they are.
Cassandra: "Good. I don't want you to. I won't be either."
The two lock up to begin the session in earnest. They agreed that it would last for thirty minutes, seeing as Cassandra now has to get herself prepared to travel to Florida where Thunder Pro are based and Valorie still has contract negotiations and other housekeeping to do in the gym. Gaining the advantage over her mom, Cassandra is able to begin with a hip toss from her Judo days, followed by a sharply executed kick to the head. One that causes Valorie's skull to impact hard with the mat.
Slight concern crosses Cassandra's face, but she shakes it off, knowing that it is part of wrestling. Waiting for her mom to stand, she leaps into the air and connects with a dropkick to the chest, making sure that her mom is not able to get into a rhythm. The session goes back and forth between them, Valorie pulling out some of her retro moves like the "Shine Driver" [Cradle Shock] and the "Valkyrie's Flight" ]Lifting Impaler DDT] and Cassandra pulling out the "Exodus'' and "Imperfect Design", moves that she has refined and polished throughout her career. The former being a move her aunt taught her, falling in love with it immediately. Stepping back to their assigned sides of the ring, both are drenched in sweat but have smiles across their faces.
Valorie: "I always knew you had the talent and dedication. You kicked my ass and I know you'll be just fine in Thunder Pro. Just make sure you don't let me down. Go out there and show them just who you are."
Cassandra: Don't worry. They'll see exactly who I am. I want them to know the real me. The one who is going to step between those ropes and ensure that when that bell rings, she is the one standing tall. No matter what I have to do to get there."
Valorie nods, knowing her daughter has the tools to do exactly that. Leaving the ring, she goes to return to her office, leaving Cassandra alone. Staring at the white and pink "Valkyrie Training Center" against the front wall of the gym. Her mind fixated on what is to come.
Cassandra: "Try me. I dare anybody to try and step to me. Try to tell me that I don't belong, because I promise... it won't end well for you. If I were you, I would look into my eyes and realize that you're looking at a woman who doesn't know the meaning of the word quit. A woman who is willing to go to hell and back again if it means she can rise to the top. This sport is my life. It is the one thing I have wanted to do, and now I am here. Now that I am about to set foot into a ring for the first time, I am going to savor the taste. I am not going to let go of the thirst for blood that exists within me until I get it. Until I see your body at my feet. Be ready."
Cassandra leaves the ring, walking back to the bleachers where she had been sitting and grabbing her gear. Preparing to head home before her career truly begins. Knowing that this session was just the final piece in the puzzle when it comes to knowing what must be done to fulfill her destiny. Stating a final goodbye to her mom, and indeed, the gym, she exits. Now is the time and she does not intend on looking back.
